Rethinking Arctic sustainable development agenda through indigenizing UN sustainable development goals

The year 2020 has urged Humanity to rethink the sustainable development agenda. COVID-19 pandemic rearticulated gaps in implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) benefit remote regions and their populations including Arctic Indigenous Peoples. In this brief communication, we want draw attention need of reshaping UN SDGs light ‘new normal’ promote communities. Agenda 2030 sets priorities that have relevance Arctic, with its rapidly changing environmental social systems are interlinked other parts globe. Successful implementation can only be accomplished through an open pluralistic dialog among global stakeholders engagement, equal partnership, under guidance This process, argue, could start by revising existing 17 goals creating five new ones (Sustainable Governance Rights, Resilient Societies, Livelihoods Knowledge systems, Life on Ice Permafrost, Equity Equality Access Natural Resources, Investment Youth Future Generations) represent People’s knowledge aspirations for development. By indigenizing will not build Arctic’s own framework but attain greater equity expand base globally.
